Earlier this year we listed out a number of shorts that were originally featured on Comedy Central’s TripTank as potential candidates for full-season shows. Number Two on that list was a series of shorts called Jeff & Some Aliens and it starred Brett Gelman as ”Jeff”. The series revolved around three extraterrestrials who are sent to Earth to study the world’s most average guy to evaluate whether humanity and the planet should be destroyed.

Well, now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jeff & Some Aliens is being developed into a full series and has a script commitment. Trip Tank exec producers Alex Bulkley and Corey Campondonico will do the same for the spin-off.

Jeff & Some Aliens is an animated series brought to you by Sean Donnelly and Alessandro Minoli, and according to the same article Comedy Central isn’t done fudging with the duo. That’s because the network has put in a script commitment for a live-action/animation hybrid The Amazing Danny. The article notes that this will also be a comedy and that it will put viewers inside the mind of a lovable schlub in his mid-20s. Donnelly and Minoli will write, direct and exec produce both projects.

One last bit of news, THR notes that Donnelly and Minoli had teamed up for a pilot presentation with FOX last year called Freshman, however no updates on where that series is at this time.

In the meantime, TripTank has a 20-episode order that airs on Comedy Central in 2015, but we get some early Tank also as new shorts will premier on a Comedy Central holiday special later this week!
