Shorts Review: Mickey Mouse Shorts ‘Potatoland’

potatoland

Spoilers Below

Goof, Donald, and Mickey are driving to Potatoland…or so they think. We find out that what Goofy meant was the state of  Idaho which of course is the type of potatoes you’re going to buy when you to your mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. Mickey and Donald don’t have the heart to break the news to Goofy, so they decide to build their own Potatoland anyway. They wake Goofy up, and yea it’s a Mickey built theme park so you already know it’s legit. The park has everything, food, rides, shows, the whole deal! Eventually, Donald and Mickey come clean that they built the park themselves and that Goofy was living in a dream world. Goofy sees the effort the guys put in to making his dreams come true and seems to appreciate the gesture, but the crew has to run off because the Sun comes up and melts the park.

Mickey Mouse Shorts are a bit longer and I’m just fine with it for a number of reasons. 1) Potatoes are delicious…that’s a given. 2) We get more time to play with the characters and build up to more fulfilling gags and 3) You get more time to really appreciate the gorgeous artwork that comes from the background design. More over, you had to appreciate the Disney World/Land influence for Potatoland. This time around we also got a bit more of a violent episode and even better the laughs just get coming with Mickey’s voice trying to scare Goofy, and with Donald’s overbearing sarcasm. The next episode of Mickey may have to go a full 12-minutes!
