Shorts Review: @CartoonHangover ‘s ‘Bee and the PuppyCat Part 1’

Holy hell, this one’s interesting to say the least.

Spoilers Below

So, Cartoon Hangover’s new series is a rather interesting one for a couple of reasons my favorite one being that the short features a pretty awesome PuppyCat that has bad news written ALL over him as he begins his journey with Bee to the nether realms of ‘Fish Bowl Space’. Bee reminds me a lot of your stereotypical millennial of whom is seeking temp agencies for work, but would probably eat loads of candy instead. We also meet a dude-lady bug whom just seems to hang around.

Creator  Natasha Allegri (Adventure Time) shows her experience here as the plot weaves in and out of acid-trip like sequences that help make sure your eyes aren’t too comfortable with the set pieces. The animation from  Key Animation is absolutely stellar and certainly keeps the anime influence more-so with action sequences and PuppyCat than anything else.

The one drawback of the series is that I felt it was unnecessary for Bee to be introduced as someone unable to find a job and would instead prefer us jumping RIGHT into the Fish Bowl Space deal so that we can par-take in adventures. I think if we just got the general gist that Bee was out of work, that would’ve sufficed versus a whole scene dedicated to that although her taking the agent’s (played by Tom Kenny) was rather humorous, I’m more curious as to what the rest of the episode could have been without it.

In any case, Cartoon Hangover continues to show its maturity and awareness of some of the best talent in the world when it comes to cartoons and Bee and the PuppyCat is a good example of that.
