Review: The Simpsons “Bart Stops to Smell the Roosevelts”

When Bart gets inspired by Superintendent Chalmers’ teachings about former President Teddy Roosevelt, he starts his own band of rough riders to save the day! Their first task? To help the recently fired Chalmers get his job back…get a history lesson after the jump!

Spoilers below

Kudos to the great John K.(Ren and Stimpy)  for the opening gag of the century. After Bart’s well thought out prank, Principal Skinner begins to man up to Chalmers’ verbal lashing and makes the challenge for the superintendent to handle Bart himself. Somehow Chalmers is able to win over Bart and somehow convinces him that Teddy Roosevelt is awesome.

With the Teddy cutaways that make the former president seem insane, Bart becomes insane to the point where he is arguing with Lisa over who the best Roosevelt is (FDR or TR). Bart gets addicted to spouting off about “TR” and like any good addiction, it spreads to others. Jimbo, Nelson, Milhouse, and Dolph fall victim to the aura that is our 26th president and tag-along with Chalmers to go camping in the woods the way TR intended, but after Nelson crashes into a canyon(HA!) Chalmers gets fired.

Overall, a decent episode. A laugh here and there but the John K. gag basically saves this week’s episode from a thumbs down.
