Amethyst and Steven are racing to a fry stand, that just closed. After they protest a bit, the store owner gives them the bits. Who wants fries when you can get the bits? As they’re walking back, Amethyst sees something really big in the sky. Pearl and Garnet see the same thing. The thing is called a Red Eye, and the only thing that can destroy it is a light cannon that belonged to Rose Quartz, Steven’s mom. So, after Amethyst fails at doing anything, Steven goes to find his dad, who may have the cannon. So, the dad is living out of his van, and doesn’t have the cannon. But he says it could be in a storage unit. So, Steven gets his makeshift spelunking gear on, and goes in.

After a bunch of hard luck stories from Greg, they find the cannon. They use a wagon and tie it up to the van. They get it to the beach as fast as they can, just in time for the Red Eye to start destroying the town. The cannon activates just as Greg was about to get sucked in to the eye by saying, “If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn’t have hot dogs.” The cannon turns into a rose, Steven raises the rose cannon, and that Red Eyes gets destroyed.  Most of the city gets saved. Everything works out.

This episode brings us the father of Steven, Greg. He is in such terrible shape, Steven is better off with the Gems. He is looked at so lowly, when they needed the cannon, they were betting on it being lost because of him. That’s some cold stuff.

I think the introduction of a Red Eye brings us one step closer to the big bad of the series, which is good. I can’t see them going much further without giving us something more to chew on. I love how they got Steven involved with the cannon was cool. The way they got it to activate was amazing. It was like a memory on how to keep the family together. The art of this show is so good. It’s like a kid drew it, but the kid actually knows how to draw, keeping in theme with the show. I cannot say enough about it.

Finally, I am digging the morals of this show. This one is all about staying unique. It’s about time we have a show that gives us positive messages, and isn’t about being someone else’s version of perfect. Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you, so very much.
