Review Spongebob Shorts: “Dying for Pie: Puppet Edition!”

Overview 

It’s “Employee Brotherhood Day” at the Krusty Krab, and Squidward gifts a pie to SpongeBob; the Pineapple Playhouse presents “Dying For Pie,” an episode with real life with puppets.


Our Take

In a nutshell, this is a shot-for-shot remake of a pre-existing Spongebob episode done with well-crafted puppets which is further emphasized by the top right corner of the screen showing the actual episode itself to compare differences. While it’s neat that they’re doing this at all, it makes me wonder how much money Nickelodeon has to burn just to make puppet versions of classic episodes instead of anything original.

Overall, it’s not a bad episode, but unless you’ve already seen it animated when it first premiered, it might not have the same comedic impact or appeal to everyone…
