Review: Adventure Time “Jermaine”

Well, it took since the beginning of the series, but we finally got to meet Jermaine properly, and with a new voice actor. When Jermaine was first introduced during a flashback in “Crystals Have Power,” Jermaine was voiced by John DiMaggio, and he sounded a lot like Jake. Only the stubble really set him apart. However, “Jermaine” actually had a different voice actor for the title character, Tom Scharpling. In my opinion, Tom did a really great job as Jermaine.

Now, Jermaine needed an update, because the only time we really saw him was in flashbacks. What has he been doing? Well, when Joshua and Margaret died, someone had to stay at the house and watch over all of the stuff Joshua and Margaret stole from various demons. Since Jake went off with Finn, the person who drew the shortest straw was Jermaine. He even had the ring of salt going around the house to keep the demons at bay. However, Jermaine was actually allowed to leave by the end of the episode. By the end of “Jermaine,” Jake and Jermaine were able to get a bit of closure, and everyone was able to get on their way for next week.

On my first watch through, I felt like “Jermaine” was an episode that was just filling in. But as I watched it a second and third time, I kept getting the feeling that this was going towards something more. “Jermaine” feels like it’s going to lead into something more. Since Jermaine was finally introduced properly, I feel like he is going to be involved with the bigger story of the season. We’re only really two episodes in so far, so I have no idea, based on “Friends Forever” last week, and “Jermaine” this week.  Even if this is a standalone episode, it was fun to watch, only because Jermaine is the antithesis to Jake, and their interactions were great. “Jermaine” is available on Cartoon Network’s site now!
