Lionsgate Gets The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers As The Cast Adds Two

 

 

Long in development has been the animated series adaptation of The Fabuous Furry Freak Brothers but it now looks like 2021 will be the year in which this is going to come to fruition as Lionsgate has boarded the series and is currently shopping the already completed eight episodes to networks and streamers.

 The show features Woody Harrelson (“Freewheelin’ Franklin Freek”), Tiffany Haddish (“Kitty”), Pete Davidson (“Phineas T. Phreakers”), and John Goodman(“Fat Freddy Freekowtski”) as voice actors for the three Freaks and the cat. Additional cast members include La La Anthony(“Gretchen”) and Andrea Savage (“Harper”), plus Phil LaMarr and Rapper ScHoolboy Q (“As Himself”).  Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton will serve as executive producers, alongside Adam Devine and Blake Anderson who will also provide voice acting as “Chuck” and “Charlie” respectively.  King of the Hill and American Dad!’s Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland will be the showrunners as well as writers on the show. ,A mini-episode was released May 6, 2020, titled “Kentucky Fried Freaks” that was written by the Lehrer Brothers.

According to Deadline which broke the story,

The series, which is based on The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, the 1960s underground cult comic created by Gilbert Shelton, follows three stoner characters who, after smoking a magical strain of weed in 1969, are transported 50 years into the future to 2020 bringing their ’60s San Francisco attitude to the modern world.
