LA TIMES(@latimes) TALKS UP NEW ANIMATED SERIES FOR MONDO(@MONDOANIMATION), YAHOO(@YAHOO), AND CARTOON HANGOVER(@Cartoonhangover)

There are a SHIT ton of new online animated channels either here or on there way, and it can be tough to see which shows/channels are worth checking out. Thankfully, you guys have me(cheap plug) and the Los Angeles Times to help you discern through the crap and make smart decisions on what’s worth watching. After the jump see which channels LA times mentioned and which shows I think are a pass/fail.

Electric City

A new sci-fi animated series with Tom Hanks in the lead role? Yes please! According to the article:

“Hanks plays Cleveland Carr, a former police officer charged with maintaining order in a murky metropolis, where secret police and murder lurk beneath the veneer of a peaceful society.”

How could this series be bad? Welp, if the writing becomes TOO agenda specific, we may have a problem but other than that the plot doesn’t sound all too dissimilar to something out of Batman!

PASS

Cartoon Hangover

We talked about this new channel a few months ago, its basically an online source for animated series geared towards the 18+ crowd. And with the great success that Fred Seibert has had working at MTV and Hanna Barbera, I am getting really excited to see some original content come out of this venture.

PASS

Its Fred

The series is based on characters from Lucas Cruikshank’s live action piece of shit Nickelodeon show mixed with his web series which is also a piece of shit. Recently, Lucas starred in the piece of shit film Fred: The Movie that was so bad that Nick decided to send it straight to DVD only to also make a sequel of which also was a steaming pile of shit. Both films got 0% Ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, despite the fact that David Goodman wrote the first one. If you want a decent list of Nickelodeon shows to check out, I suggest you go here.

This is a big FUCK YOU FAIL

 Annoying Orange

I just wrote about this, its a new series that got picked up by Cartoon Network that is based on the popular web series of the same name. This is actually where I see a lot of the future for animation will come. Two trends to watch for people, International shows, and web show producers that get better paying gigs on TV.

PASS

Mondo Mini Shows

With popular series’ like Dick Figures and Happy Tree Friends already under its belt, Mondo has announced what I think could be its next big hit Off The Curb a series being developed by Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko’s Modern Life) which is about ” about a crew of smack-talking knuckleheads”. Sounds kind of cool, I just wish the channel was better organized with which shows belong to which target audience.

PASS

So who do you guys think is best put together to come out on top? Is it the crafty veterans at Mondo? The promising Cartoon Hangover? OR newcomer Yahoo? Sound off…
