Five animated shows announced by Comedy Central for 2014 dev that we need to see results from in 2015

So, last year, a bunch of TV networks had announced that they are putting animated shows into development. We decide to revisit those this year to see what kind of traction we got for possible 2015 premiers. The first network we wanted to go after was Comedy Central. Over the last three years, the network has cancelled Brickleberry, Futurama, and Ugly Americans, but it looks as though they aren’t completely abandoning the animated front and in fact put FIVE different projects into development all the while giving us the premier of Moonbeam City happening later this year to go along with 20 episodes of TripTank.

So, let’s recap the five projects that Comedy Central announced for last year:

This pilot was first announced for production back in August having been inspired by the popular Twitter handle of the same name. Unfortunately, not much has been heard since other than the fact that the network has ordered a pilot centered around Karl Welzein’s fictional tale of a middle-aged man that is a huge fan of Bob Seger and going through a separation from his wife.

Personally, as great as an idea as this series is, of all of the projects that were announced last year for development, this one I have the least hope for. Similar ideas like Selfie, Shit My Dad Says, and others have tried and failed to capitalize on popular phrases or handles inspired by social media accounts.

Waco Valley

Above Average is actually slightly less than when it comes to original cartoons. The Youtube channel used to produce animated content all the time, but not lately. Waco Valley seems to have the most promise as show creator Ben Wareheit currently serves as a writer for the hit Hulu series The Awesomes and signage for the series is all over the Youtube page and Facebook page covers for Above Average that features the dinosaur reporter which tells us that there’s life here.

Vandaveon and Mike

V&M

Obviously the most likely to be picked given the grand success of Key and Peele. The guys have talked about producing an animated series inspired by a spin-off of their popular sketch series Vandaveon and Mike at various panels and Reddit AMA’s, and with the amount of press that these guys receive not just for this show, but for the other projects they work on featuring the likes of Seth Rogen, Fargo, and others.  It would make perfect sense for Comedy Central to capitalize on this and give the green light for this series.

Legends

Bento Box aka the producers of the recently cancelled Brickleberry, already have a working history with Comedy Central from a far, however this is the production company’s first original series. The Brad Ableson (Good Vibes) joint is the only one we’ve seen so far that has had a true sneak which means an answer could have either A) been passed on or B) be close to a pickup announcement soon. Brad also helped produce Biatches for CC:Digital, so the network knows what they are getting from an aesthetic, though that series is probably peanuts compared to this effort. A 2015 premier? Unlikely. A pickup announcement? We’re hoping!

Jeff and Some Aliens

The first successful spin-off from TripTank is our mos recent development announcement having come in late last year. The Brett Gelman-starrer has already seen a good amount of screen time on Comedy Central and we loved it so much we thought it was one of the best ideas that had come from the eight episode start of the network’s answer for the FOX cartoon incubator. This one getting air-time before the end of 2015 could be a long-shot, but that doesn’t mean we won’ hear about a pickup.
