English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! “I Want to Make Udon After We Hang Out!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
A day out with Sakaki and Ami turns into a grudge match of futsal against a trio of bullies. Sakurai asks Uzaki’s mom Tsuki to teach him a new dish.

Our Take:
It looks like Sakurai and Uzaki have gotten themselves into another pickle again. When we last saw the two in the previous episode, they were seen sleeping together on campus. This resulted in the students, including Sakaki, taking a picture of them together and sharing them with the others, much to Hana and Sakurai’s dismay. So Uzaki and the others decided to go clothes shopping together to make amends.
Afterward, the episode doesn’t waste any time diving deep into hilarious and awkward territory, which is no different from their previous misadventures. First, the four friends encounter some of Sakaki’s old acquaintances bullying a bunch of young kids. However, these bullies are actually the bullied as they got roasted by the kids and Sakaki, who claims he doesn’t know them. The boys challenged Sakaki and Sakurai to a futsal match, which abruptly ended with Sakurai summoning his inner strength to kick the ball into their teeth, skull, and torso. Those guys are going to need a lot of money to cover their hospital bills.
Finally, we see Hana daydreaming about being Sakurai’s upperclassman before her mother, Tsuki, teaches Sakurai to cut the noodles for the udon properly. However, this segment is more about Tsuki misunderstanding Hana’s relationship with Sakurai. Part of the show’s humor involves Tsuki’s misinterpreting Sakurai’s desires. In the season one episode “Tsuki Uzaki Wants a Thrill?”, Tsuki nervously misunderstood Sakurai’s desire to pet one of her cats as him being romantically interested in her, resulting in her being paranoid around him. Her skittish personality still applies in this episode, with Tsuki misinterpreting Hana sleeping with Sakurai as something sexual. Tsuki is another character that would’ve been uncomfortable to witness at first, along with Ami, but their reactions are so priceless that it makes their odd appeal adorable.
The second episode proves that the show’s second season is chugging along nicely, mainly due to its use of awkward comedy and scenarios. Sakurai’s unexpected goal-winning shot is literally painfully hilarious, mainly due to the injuries he caused. However, I would say that Tsuki’s embarrassing reactions toward Hana’s explanation were my favorite part of the episode because of her personality. It’s not enough to beat out Ami’s sexy uniform scenario as the best of the season, but it came close.
