English Dub Review: The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter “The Receptionist Ranking”

Overview

Noir and Company’s first exam is announced where they must collect specific monster materials or else attend summer school. Noir and Emma ask Lola for help, only to find her in a fight with Sarah, a rival receptionist who has been stealing Lola’s clients, thus lowering Lola’s performance evaluation.

Lola challenges Sarah to a competition where if she scores higher on their next evaluation she will replace Lola. Despite Sarah’s claims that she never steals other people’s clients and there’s technically no proof that Sarah broke any rules, Sarah says she will steal Noir from Lola if she wins. So in an effort to collect rare Items for the exam and save Lola’s job, Noir heads to the 7th floor of the dungeon which leads to another world…

Our Take

This episode was a bit simple in its premise, but one of the things that bothered me about it is that it lacks any sort of consistency to how many skill points it takes to achieve a certain task. Because based on observation, I’m not even sure if the show itself is aware and just makes random things expensive out of plot contrivances. I feel it would’ve at least been interesting if it was consistent.

Sarah is clearly using some underhanded tactics to win the adventurers. Noir had his fun time with everyone except Lola. With every episode, it feels like some of the ladies who accompany Noir are getting more daring with their feelings.

Overall, this was a compelling watch even if it felt like there was almost no plot at all. At least we got to see his Noir’s all-lady crew fight a monster and Noir himself had the balls to jump in when needed. Then again, maybe he should be more careful and try not to get himself killed. And finally, Noir is on the seventh floor and it had a decent cliffhanger at the end. Also, the post-credits scene gave me a good laugh and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
