English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind: “The Thankful Death, Part 2”

(Possible Spoilers Below)

As Bruno attempts to jump out of the Train with Prosciutto to save everyone, Pesci catches Prosciutto with his Fisher Man Stand Powers, but Bruno uses the opportunity to grab onto the line himself and knock Prosciutto off the train. However, Prosciutto survives and gets caught under the train’s carriage, causing Thankful Death to remain in effect. As Bruno makes his way back on board the train, Pesci discovers what’s become of Prosciutto who has managed to put himself inside the machinery of the train and maintained his Stand Powers despite his wounds.

Emboldened by Prosciutto’s sacrifice, Peci goes through quite a significant change by shedding his cowardice into becoming an actual killer. Pesci then uses his Stand powers to travel through Bruno’s body in an attempt to pierce his heart, but Bruno while still accompanied by Guido’s “Number 6” Bullet-Stand uses his Zipper-Man Stand powers to greater effect in a clever & badass scene, so he can remain undetected to Pesci. At first, Pesci gives up on his search stops the train, giving Bruno time to plan a surprise attack and after putting himself together, he comes face to face with the carrot-headed bastard outside the stopped train who nearly manages to pierces Bruno’s heart again until Bruno’s Zipper-Man turns the tides in his favor.

In his last moments, Pesci attempts to crush their travel-turtle Coco Large with the crew still inside, but Bruno stops him by unzipping his arm so it can punch Pesci, then finishes him off an epic & badass scene, while Prosciutto finally succumbs to his wounds and dies, causing everyone to revert to normal. In the aftermath of the fight, The episode ends when Bruno discovers a big reveal about Trish that even she wasn’t unaware of, while unbeknownst to Bruno’s team they’re soon trailed by another Hitman Team Member known as “Melone”.

Our Take

We have so many highlights within this episode that you cannot help but root for both parties. The writing, for the most part, remained ridiculously strong, there was so much great characterization with one of the most badass final showdowns we’ve gotten in the series at this point. Everything was also incredibly well-directed, there was consistently great animation, the voice acting even for the dub was fantastic and properly conveyed emotion for the right situations they were in. As a villain, I was more surprised at Peci’s character growth which occurred in a matter of seconds.

When Pesci realized what became of Prosciutto and the unyielding resolve he had, his personality evolved on the spot into less of a whiner. If he had awakened his potential early on, Peci could’ve finished them all off before they even realized that there’s another threat aside from the Prosciutto’s Thankful Death, not to mention Bruno’s quick thinking lead to using Pesci’s own stand against him in a unique and brutal way that even made me wince.

Overall, this episode put me in a weird situation where part of me wanted Prosciutto and Pesci to succeed almost as much as I wanted Bruno to. And that’s how you know you’ve written excellent characters even for both the hero & villain sides.
