English Dub Review: Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest “Someone Important”

Overview

As Hajime and Kaori remain separated from the others, the two move deeper into the labyrinth. They encounter an even more disturbing illusion, but Kaori has more important concerns – does she really want to continue this relationship with Hajime?

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, More illusions continue to unravel before both Hajime and Kaori some fucked up history within this worlds universe, as they continue to experience fears of play with facing the ship’s past such as a racial peace treaty party that to put it mildly goes from wholesome to disturbingly horrific and portrayed really brutally in the name of this so-called God, “Ehit”. Although is there more going on than at first glance?

Hajime then wastes no time when he finds Kaori possessed and in an effort to avoid the risk of possibly killing Kaori, he proceeds to torture and degrade whatever was in her body to get out rather than straight up killing them, leading to an unexpected twist. We also get the rest of Hajime’s crew back, though they eventually find help from an unexpected call-back from Season 1. And to top it all off, the cliffhanger at the end regarding the Kingdom seems to slowly be making it’s move…

Overall, these past two episodes were well-paced since the first 4-5 episodes of season 1. I also liked Hajime a lot in this episode, its nice to see a Protagonist with a clear goals and who knows who he wants as a partner unlike the usual bunch of self insert indecisive male leads in recent shows, or those too dumb to reciprocate like half the male characters in Black Clover. I wish this series leaned more into this side of its narrative rather than its fights when it isn’t making it about the women fighting over one dude who may or may not reciprocate…
