Disney Animation nabs two; Former Mondo Media Exec

Two years ago, Disney Animation was so depressing that it just became a shell of itself. Disney Channel, at best, had a couple of animated shows that aired on Friday Nights, and that was about it. Everything else was on Disney Junior, and Disney XD was struggling to figure out what it had with properties like Tron: Uprising.

Fast-forward until now, and Disney XD has one of the best cartoon lineups on the planet. Franchises from premiere brands like Star Wars, Marvel, and LEGO are all accounted for, and there seems be something new on almost every night starting this September. The network actually does a fantastic job of balancing product from the aforementioned properties, with new and existing original ideas like Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil, and more. As a result, Disney XD has added two more executives to its ranks that are going to assure we keep getting the good stuff moving forward.

Eric Coleman has a new title, Senior VP for Original Programming and GM for Disney TV Animation. In this role, he reports directly to COO Gary Marsh, and will lead the TV animation studio as it embarks on a diversified slate of programming. He will be responsible for casting and music for series seen on Disney Channel and Disney XD. Coleman has spearheaded the development of the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts and Gravity Falls, along with new series Star vs. The Forces of Evil.

Joining Disney XD, is Mondo Media executive Aaron Simpson. The former EP for Like, Share, Die, and producer for countless pilots on Youtube’s biggest channel for cartoons, Aaron joins Disney XD, and he will oversee all development activity, both long and shortform, manage the development team and work closely with current series in order to ensure a smooth transition of each property from pilot to production.

All of this is Disney’s promise that they will continue to build out its content, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. September will be a busy month for Disney XD, so keep it locked here for reviews.
