Comedy Central green lights a bunch of animation for Snapchat (this may explain the decision on TripTank)

We told you guys earlier today that Deadline noted that TripTank may be in danger of being cancelled despite having 10 additional episodes completed that haven’t had an air date yet. At first I thought it was strange that TripTank would be on the chopping block, but this news could explain some.

Comedy Central has picked up the following animated series for Snapchat:

Animal-Lolz – from heartbroken penguins to alcoholic monkeys, comedian Joe Zimmerman (The Half Hour) shares a new, totally true animal fact with us each week. Short animations by Charlie Hankin bring to life Joe’s musings about each animal.

Bert’s Dreams – Bert Kreischer has some pretty crazy dreams and he loves to share them with people. In this series, animated by Johnny McHone, Kreischer’s dreams come to life via animated recreations.

The Lounge – written and created by the Hudson Brothers (Dylan, Trent, Justin, Brandon and Devin), this animated series follows four best friends who work together at a middle school in Missouri. None of them are teachers, all of them are assholes.

Now, TripTank was not only an incubator for potential new shows on Comedy Central (which the show did just fine), but it was also Comedy Central’s vehicle for producing social cartoons. Right away, TripTank had crazy shit on Facebook, Twitter, Vine, and a bunch of other places. But, Comedy Central has been HUGE on Snapchat, so having social cartoons on competing social networks may stretch the value thin. It also helps that the people producing these new shows are all stand-ups and I’m sure Comedy Central has had/will have stand up specials featuring all of them hence allowing the network to stretch the value of a name ala Daniel Tosh and Amy Schumer.

We will report more as it develops.
