John “On The Spot”: #2 of Animated Shows That Should Come Back

UPN(now known to most as MyTV) was a stupid TV network that had some great properties on it. The Howard Stern Show, WWE, and fucking Brendon Small’s “Home Movies” were all at one point or another on that network. “Home Movies” went on to Cartoon Network(and we know where that went), Howard Stern makes a shit ton of money, but the one show that never really got a shot was my favorite…Dilbert.

How do you screw up an animated show that was awarded an Emmy? Easy, you can be UPN. Here’s a show that had such great voice actors as Daniel Stern, Chris Elliot, and Kathy Griffin. Want to hear cameos? Jerry Seinfeld, Andy Dick, Jon Favreau, Tom Green, and Gilbert Gottfried just to name a few.

The thing about Dilbert that I liked the most was the story-arcs. The second season had a few but it was really the first season that did at least 2 or 3 different arcs at a time when many animated shows didn’t. Very seldom, in animation does it even happen, and to my recollection really only South Park has done them right in the last ten years. But, it was the idea of at the closure of an episode, you knew you HAD to turn in next week. Similar, to reality competition shows like Hell’s Kitchen, like you know this bitch HAS to be cut but doesn’t so you have to turn in next week to see if it does.

Could Dilbert come back today? Yep…just not on UPN. UPN was a terrible channel, always was. So, if I were looking for a comeback it would have to be a Comedy Central or an FX. I actually think CC would be perfect simply because they have office-based movies/shows on there already with Workaholics and Office Space on loop some days. Having said that, the likelihood is probably not there, so for now I’ll have to settle for the comic strips in the local paper.
