Review: Squidbillies “Squash B’Gosh”

Good to have ‘ya back.

Spoilers Below

After a break of two months and some change, we once again get a new adventure from our favorite redneck squids- and in the form of a Halloween special.

It turns out that the Sheriff has a strange obsession with Cabbage Patch-esque dolls. He needs costumes for them for Halloween so he hires Granny to create custom box fitting designs for the occasion. Early sees the opportunity for more cash with the price that the dolls go for and therefore creates his own line of perishable squash children- The Squash B’Gosh.

The Squash B’Gosh come to life and are thirsty for blood, whether it be human blood or squid blood. Good thing that Early is always packing his trusty 12 gauge, because he starts blowing them away at site, while trying to salvage the Sheriff’s expensive doll collection.

The episode was great and really put me in the Halloween spirit. This is what I wish we had more of this season: silly episodes with no political viewpoints being pushed; that are bizarre, funny, and entertaining. Also, to my knowledge and remembrance, this is really the first time that Squidbillies has broken the flat 2-D look considerably, and much of the episode had a new depth to it, that I’ve really got to commend. It felt like some Evil Dead camera angles, and actually surprised me with how stellar the overall fluidity of the animation was.
