REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS “A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again”

Spoilers Below

Bart needs to break up the monotony in his life so he sells a bunch of stuff in his room and saves up a bunch of money to try and get on a cruise. Turns out Bart wasn’t the only one who needed a break as everyone sold an item to buy their own tickets on board!  And after the triple class upgrade, for the first time ever The Simpsons are living large! Eventually, Bart and Lisa take off on their own where Lisa meets a bunch of like-minded brainiacs like herself, whereas Bart is just Bart.

After the family gets serenaded by the musical stylings of cruise ship director Rowan Priddis, Bart realizes that the absolutely awesome life of living on a cruise is only good for another week in which case he has to go back to the reality of every day being the same. To prevent this from happening, Bart sabotages the cruise by putting up a phony warning of a virus back on land and then destroys the communication hardware with hot fudge sending everyone onboard into a panic! Bart so far is the only one not feeling the pain of the thought of NEVER setting foot on land but the rest of the family can’t stand it. Thankfully, Bart eventually comes clean about what happened which causes the passengers and crew onboard to leave the Simpson family stranded on an iceberg with no food or water. At first everyone is pissed at Bart, but eventually, Homer, Marge, and Lisa come around as Bart explained himself, and who’s to say snowy slopes can’t be fun right?

I love how The Simpsons have literally gotten kicked out of every town they’ve ever vacationed to and that now you can add a cruise to that list. Well, I suppose Bart was actually TRYING to stay on this vacation but to no avail. Steve Coogan was only OK as Roman because it seemed as though his character started off slow only to finally pick up the pace and join in on the jokes near the end. I also wasn’t too crazy with the flashbacks to a dying Bart as I thought they just interrupted the episode over and over again. Also, I thought the ending was cheap and felt tacked one, almost like the writers were like “hey we need 10 more minutes of material, what can we add here?”. Would have just been a lot better if Homer and family were back at the couch wrapping shit up.
