English Dub Review: Yona of the Dawn “Bond”

The opening five minutes of “Bond” is fan service at it’s best. They play Jae-Ha to look like a pervert to the viewer, and a gay man trying to convert a straight man into a relationship. Oh, the Japanese women should love this. Through all of this odd fan service, Yona finds her noble streak, wanting to help a family who has been terrorized by the city officers.

Meanwhile, Ki-Jah finally found Jae-Ha, and had him trapped long enough for Jae-Ha to run right into Hak, and subsequently Yona. According to the story, Yona is supposed to be the Master, or the Crimson Dragon. However, it’s going to take a long bit of persuading. I found it pretty convenient that Yona decided to have a meeting with Jae-Ha’s captain, at the risk of losing both Hak and their gear. The episode’s end seems to come forth fast, because before you know it, Yona is in a somewhat desperate situation with the captain.

“Bond” seemed to end abruptly, and I’m not sure if I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of not much going on, just Yona finding her sense of purpose for this week, Jae-Ha looking pretty gay with his pursuit of Hak, and the crew made it to the pirate ship. I feel pretty dumb for sitting in front of my TV watching “Bond.” I could find a cliff notes of it, and I could feel pretty silly for watching 23 minutes of a show, just to summarize it in the 20 seconds it took for me to write my summary. Well, I think that summarizes the disappointment I feel, because it’s pretty apparent.
