MTV2 to bring back ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’!

We can definitely categorize this in the ”Holy fuck, this is awesome news folder”. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that MTV2 has ordered a rebooted pilot episode of Celebrity Deathmatch.

For those that don’t know, Celebrity Deathmatch was an animated series that ran in the late 90s, was cancelled, then ran again starting in 2002, only for it to get cancelled again. In fairness the second go-round wasn’t nearly as good as the first one, but I’ll take Celebrity Deathmatch anyway I can get it.

As the name implies, Celebrity Deathmatch was a series that saw two ‘celebrities’ face off in an anything goes brawl set in the middle of the ring. Johnny Gomez and Nick Diamond called the matches, and Judge Mills Lane was our referee. The one and only Stone Cold Steve Austin played the scientist, weapons expert, and doctor, helping round out a cast that was more or less the fucking best.

Show creator Eric Fogel and Wasteland Entertainment are behind the new incarnation, with Chris McCarthy and Paul Ricci also on board as executive producers.
