English Dub Review: The Rolling Girls “Center of the World”

I’m sure this is the stuff nightmares are made of for people who are scared of roller coasters.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week, on The Rolling Girls, we have the ending of what felt like a two part premiere. Like I said last week, The Rolling Girls is definitely not in my wheelhouse. There’s a lot of cutesy flowers, sparkles, and glitter explosions. However, it’s a solid number three in the list of the Winter 2015 Broadcast Dubs, behind Assassination Classroom and World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman. I was very worried that the rush to get these shows out early for people to watch would create a bad environment for the shows. Boy, was I wrong!

Like I said, the story that started in “King of Rookies’ continued into “Center of the World.” What made this a great episode was the pretty killer fight between Masami and Kuniko. An entire roller coaster was screwed with, and most of the theme park was torn apart. I thought the fighting was done pretty well. But for the what was handled almost perfectly was the revelation to Nozomi that Masami was Maccha Green. The short amount of time that the show was going, Masami getting outed as Maccha Green was done tastefully. You can’t really ask for much more with about 35 minutes combined screen time.

The characters are very well written so far, and all have their quirks. Nozomi wants to help Masami, at any means necessary. Yukina was the quiet sidekick, that’s down for anything. The two new girls that were introduced this week were Ai, who is a reckless hothead, but adds the comedy to the other three. And finally, Chiaya is the newest, who was introduced at the end of the episode. This is the most intriguing girl so far, only because there’s so little known about her.

Going forward, the only cleanup we need is with Masami and Kuniko. They kicked the shit out of each other, yet only Masami was shown in the hospital. What happened to Kuniko? Well, we’ll hopefully find out soon. Hopefully, we can get that next week. I am very pleased with The Rolling Girls. I hope that the trend continues going forward.
