BubbleCAN Review: Ben’s City ‘Scott’s Return’

Spoilers Below

In “Scott’s Return”, our characters travel to a small Asian country called Senzaï Donzaï, where military takeovers and dictatorships are the norm and Molotov cocktails are the national beverage.

But most of the episode is spent thousands of miles above sea level, when Scott’s mountaineering vacation goes downhill after one of the Sherpa leading the expedition takes a fall and breaks his leg. When the party fails to meet their next checkpoint on time, Ben is notified.

Unfortunately, the travel bureau of Senzaï Donzaï will not cover the cost of the search, so it’s up to Ben and Mr. Wallet to raise funds to find him.

And when Canadian Prime Minister Jack Dwizz decides to finance the search party, Ben and Mr. Wallet, who is decked out like a Bavarian fashion icon, head out to the small Asian village to find their friend.

Meanwhile in Quebec, Mrs. Shrink calls the news station to get up-to-the-minute info on her missing neighbour, causing yet another media sensation (this time, not revolving around Mr. Wallet)

In this episode we learn Scott is one of the leading men in the advertising industry (a couple of hacks produce a car commercial with terrible production values, while their bigwig client laments for Scott), and he makes brainless decisions with productive results (luring a mountain goat by showing off his new BlackBerry and riding a Krazy Karpet down a mountain to name a few).

So will Scott and the rest of the party rescued? Obviously, since this is not a soap opera.

We’re already four episodes in, and Ben’s City uses its first cutaway gag to cleverly demonstrate a joke… But don’t go comparing it to Family Guy just yet.
