Review: The Looney Tunes Show ‘The Shell Game’

Spoilers Below

Daffy’s recliner gets destroyed and he doesn’t want to get a new one so Bugs gets him one. Turns out Bugs took Daffy’s chair and sold it to probably help pay for it, but Daffy had a long history with it and he really wants it back.  When Bugs hears the whole story he decides to help his roommate find his old recliner but when they get to the thrift store they find that someone had already purchased it.  On the way out of the parking lot, Bugs runs over Cecil Turtle and even though he’s OK his shell is cracked. Cecil agrees to not go through insurance and opts to find his own body shop with Bugs agreeing to pick up the bill.

Back at home, Lola thinks the new recliner looks like shit, too so she decides to help Daffy in getting a different recliner. Meanwhile, Bugs gets an initial estimate on Cecil’s shell of almost $40,000. Once they get to the furniture store, Lola and Daffy window shop the hell out of the entire store almost forgetting about the recliner. Its better than what Bugs has to deal with, as after he drops off the down payment for his shell, Cecil asks Bugs to go grocery shopping for him. When Bugs gets backed, Cecil tells him that he’s gonna need a whole new custom shell with a tag of $53,000. Something seems fishy, Bugs grabs the phone that Cecil was talking to his body shop and guess what??? No one was there.

Back at Home Warehouse,  Lola finds out that Daffy went to the bathroom in one of the display toilets! That said, Bugs is the one looking up something that stinks because after doing some net research he finds out that Cecil is a scam artist and he’s been at it for years! Eventually, Porky shows up oinking a tale about how he paid Cecil 10 grand to replace his shell and Bugs decides to go with him to see what’s up. Which is good because guess what? Daffy and Lola leave the store and they didn’t get any new recliners.

Bugs and Porky show up to Cecil’s house but the turtle pulls a gun when they look to go to the police. Bugs discovers that Cecil also has his old recliner and he uses that knowledge to his advantage and he cracks Cecil a good one! Bugs gets back the old recliner much to Daffy’s dismay!

It’s been too long since we’ve seen new Looney Tunes Show and I’m glad to see it come back! What I loved about this episode was all of the adult themes like dealing with scam artists and having to spend the day at IKEA. Have you guys ever walked through an IKEA? Seriously, it is a friggin’  nightmare! Not sure if this show really captured that but they nailed the look, feel, and typical customers for the store. Also, the Bugs story was a lot of fun and an interesting caper to say the least especially when you consider how it kinda wrapped everything together. I wasn’t crazy about the Merrie Melody, but overall this was a good one!
