COMICS REVIEW: BART SIMPSON #83

Like you need this to be said, but there are SPOILERS AHEAD!

“The Booty”

You know what I love, when a comic throws in a parody of an 80’s film that I really enjoyed. “The Booty,” is such a parody. It’s a loose derivative of the movie Stand By Me. Milhouse, Bart and Martin are walking down railroad tracks, on their way to find a dead body. They get to a bridge, when Otto uses the railroad bridge as a shortcut for the bus, forcing the kids to jump off into the river. They swim out, and find the body. Bart is unimpressed, and goes to tell a tale of what he thought was the most disgusting thing ever.

Krusty is looking for a way to sell a lot of pies. His publicist tells him they aren’t selling, and they’re about to spoil. So, they come up with the idea of having a pie-eating contest to drum up sales. Skinner, Disco Stu, Comic Book Guy, and Homer (at the request of Bart,) all enter. What is the prize? That would be a signed copy of the very rare Krustyburger giveaway comic. Everything is going okay. Krusty is getting people interested in his pies, and Homer is doing well. Skinner and Stu drop, leaving Homer and Comic Book Guy to finish. These two gluttons (and I know a thing or two about gluttony) keep eating, because they don’t want to lose. It gets so bad, that the crowd is walking away from the contest, completely disgusted by the display of fatassery. Krusty mercifully stops the contest, and gives both of them a comic. Bart is standing behind them as they go to bend slightly to pick up the comics. And both CBG and Homer’s pants rip right down the ass. Yeah, I’d say that’s rather gross.

So, Bart finishes his story, and they leave. Barney wakes up thinking it was all pixies making noise.

“I’d Rather Bleed Than Read”

Skinner, sometimes, has some of the best plans to get Bart to be productive. Unfortunately, unforseen circumstances always seem to screw him. Here’s the latest blunder. Skinner tricks Bart into getting locked in the library, by putting free fireworks signs around the school. Bart enters, and gets locked in. Bart tries to escape through the air vents, but WIllie is stuck in there, trying to give him a book on tape. He finds Milhouse under a desk munching on erasers.  He freaks, and speeds through a book report to leave. From there, Bart tries to get out through a window, and falls because of a soft covered book. When Skinner tries to get Bart out, Bart barricades the door, and tells Skinner that he has a 300 page book report covering 60 years of Radioactive Man coming. So he’s going to be a while.

“Krustyburger Konfidential”

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at your local fast food eatery? Well, you should look at this 2-page mini story. All I can really say is, “Poor Milhouse…”

Overall, this was a very enjoyable issue.  The writers of all the Simpsons comics have stepped up to make the whole comic better. It seems that they are taking the time to make these shorter stories more enjoyable to the general reader. These stories were very well written, and if the show’s format were like Treehouse of Horrors, these could be segments for sure.

Overall: 9/10
