OUR TAKE

So, not a whole lot of major developments in this week’s episode. Some of the battles are still going on like with Gray, Lucy finishes up hers against Mirajane and her siblings, while Natsu’s fight with Gajeel and Levy ends up kinda unresolved, mainly due to neither of the Dragon Slayers wanting Levy involved because of her pregnancy. This was something revealed near the end of the original series, though I guess not much time has passed if she’s still not showing any signs. Not that that’s a huge deal, I guess I just think that if they’re going to make a big deal out of it, we should have some clear signs that time has passed. One of the odder things about this sequel series is that it just feels like more of the same, instead of a proper next step in the story. I know that Dragon Ball Z and Naruto Shippuden only got those names for the sake of their respective anime to designate story segments, but they both also felt very distinct. Meanwhile Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest is actually a sequel manga but it feels like it shouldn’t even bother having a separate name.

Where was I going with that? Ah well, anyway, this episode also kinda spends a bit too much time on Erza and Jellal kinda sorta flirting, which is only a bit of an issue because this is another thing that they’re just spinning their wheels on and here is just for comedy, and not even much good of it. In terms of actual plot developments, Diabolos is back in the story after not that much time away, so maybe we’ll get a villain team face off while they and Touka are looking for Aldoron’s sources of power. I do like to see two separate villain factions go at it from time to time, and this would be a neat opportunity since the heroes are fighting each other too. The episode ends on Natsu facing off against a new Diabolos member, Wraith, who seems to have more phantasmal abilities. And that certainly sounds neat and fun and all, but I’ve seen so many gimmicks in this series so far that he’s gonna have to do something pretty unique to stand out. I guess we’ll see what that is next time, but hopefully there’s some more plot progression as well, or I’m gonna LOSE IT.
