English Dub Review: Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki “Villagers have their own way of life”

Overview

Team Tomozaki continues to coach Tama to become more integrated with the class. Tomozaki brings in a special pinch-hitter with wise words to share…

Our Take

In this episode, the persistent harassment by Erika’s circle on Tama continues, but with the added protective efforts of those who extend her support bubble to include Hinami and Yuzu. Later on, Fumiya and Mizusawa play crucial roles in boosting Tama’s confidence, and expanding their support group, yet Fumiya must cautiously tip-toe around anyone affiliated with Erika. This of course leads to Fuuka being added, mostly because she’s a neutral person willing to offer her perspective and join the support group.

As Fuuka becomes part of the group, Mizusawa can’t help but feel a tinge of jealousy, considering the female companionship that Tomozaki has acquired to address his social issues. The dynamics within the group are explored, with Mimimi’s excitement contrasting with Fuuka’s reserved personality. Fuuka appears introverted, and comfortable only around a select few. However, there’s a legit sense of foreboding with a cliffhanger that involves one of Erika’s friends taking notice across the street…

Overall, after three episodes, the narrative seems to go out of its way to make Tama a “focal point” character of sorts. She seems to be undergoing important life lessons, offering a unique perspective compared to the main protagonist. And despite instances of short shaming, the episode culminates in a successful plan. However, the real question is, what will happen next after Erika’s friend’s discovery?
