English Dub Review: Shangri-La Frontier “Let’s Go Tomb Raiding!!”

Overview

Sunraku continues his way through the Prismatic Forest Grotto where he encounters the area boss Clown Spider. He tells Emul to stay back as he wants to solo it first try with a no-hit run.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Sunraku proceeds to challenge the area boss known as the “Clown Spider” in the Prismatic Forest Grotto caves. Declaring he can whoop it’s ass unscathed, he utilizes the new skills acquired in the arena to engage in battle. And Seeing those other adventurers try to fight that thing earlier only to be literally crushed really sets the tone for how terrifying this thing was. Yet Sunraku having the utmost confidence and even wanting to defeat this thing shows how ballsy he can get.

Later on in the real world, Rei shares her accomplishment to with the game store clerk Mana that she managed to befriend Rakuro/Sunraku in-game, though she was about to miss him when he was reading up on SLF’s Summer update from an email sent by Pencilgon herself. But it’s here when the stakes are raised when Pencilgon summons Sanraku and another pro gamer named Katzo to a different game world. With the two, who have just begun their journey in the game, she presents a surprising proposition that reveals a series of twists even I wasn’t expecting…

Overall, this was a good episode that manges to set up actual stakes towards a major threat while introducing another character. I’m also getting more convinced that this isn’t simply a game due to the strange occurences that Sunraku keeps encountering compared to everyone else. And the big twist itself that Arthur revealed near the end was pretty foreboding. But with two more episodes left, I’m curious what direction this could take next!
