English Dub Review: MF Ghost, “The 300 kph Dogfight”

Overview

After making up a bunch of places in the death zone, Kanata enters the final sector, but with the long straight at the end of the lap highlighting the 86’s main weakness, can he hold on to his current position to the checkered flag?

Our Take

As the climax to the proceedings is near, the battle for 3rd place begins culminating to a level of unmatched intensity. But as Aiba pushes too hard with his tire management, he ends up overshooting the heavy braking zone at the end of the Kamaboko Straight. As a result, he fell into an unfavorable place. It’s also another showcase of how impressive Akaba does in his Ferrari 488 GTB, with a well-deserved 3rd place I guess.

While this was going on, Kanata had to give it everything just to hold Taylor’s Porsche at bay. People often forget the place music has in most entertainment and when it can unleash something emotionally significant in a scene it can excite the audience. And it’s here when a Eurobeat song kicks in when the pair hit the same braking zone with Kanata regaining the 9th spot. At the very least, I do like how Taylor went to Kanata and congratulated him personally after the race. As for Nozomi, she continues to make me like her more with how she hugged Kanata so willingly, which was even more funny since it was in front of Ren and the other MFG angels.

Overall, this was a passable episode even if the last moments felt like it was the last episode of this season. Talking about food, alcohol, and the camera panning slowly to Kanata looking at the red GT86 and the ending theme already playing in the background for a while But given that we now have 3 episodes left, I’m curious about what the Season Finale entails…
