English Dub Review: Jujutsu Kaisen “Thunderclap”

Overview:

Sukuna refuses to heed Jogo’s advice after waking up, instead displaying his overwhelming strength against the Special-Grade Cursed Spirit, Jogo. Meanwhile, Fushiguro faces off against the rampant Toji without being aware of the other’s identity.

Our Take:

I mentioned this a bit last week, but I might be too soft for this series. It doesn’t seem like anything good or happy is going to happen in this series for a long time. The two comedic relief characters Gojo and Yuji aren’t around at the moment. I guess technically Yuji is still around but Sukuna has completely taken over his body and while he might be one of the most badass characters currently he isn’t one for relieving the tension. In fact, he thrives on creating tension, a giant bomb of fire is coming to the Earth and instead of letting the four people in its path run away, he says he’ll kill them if they move before he says so. Only Sukuna would do a mini-game right before a nuclear bomb-type threat.

The cherry on top of the proverbial sad sundae was during Toji and Megumi’s fight. Toji wasn’t himself and was relentlessly attacking Megumi not knowing it was his son. When he began to realize who he was and asked his name, he opted to kill himself so as to not accidentally harm his son. I know Toji wasn’t the nicest guy when he was alive but I was looking forward to a super-powered father-son combo.
