Review: Middlemost Post “More Scary Stories to Tell Your Cloud”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

It’s Halloween night once again as the Middlemost Post shares scary stories with the help of a few friends.

Our Take:

Middlemost Post is back from its hiatus to wrap up its second season with another Halloween-themed episode. Seeing how much I enjoyed it so far, it’s nice for me to return to Nick’s recent animated series with the latest spooky adventure of Parker and the mail-delivering gang. So how does this half-hour special fare compared to its previous outing? It’s a slight downgrade from the last Halloween episode, but not by much.

“More Scary Stories to Tell Your Cloud” is clearly a follow-up to the season one episode “Scary Stories to Tell Your Cloud”. That episode involved Parker and the others telling frightening yet humorous tales during a blackout. It was a suitable Halloween-themed episode that took an absurdist twist on the usual “telling stories during a blackout” trope from other shows. This episode offers more of the same regarding its plot, but it’s extended to an additional fifteen minutes. However, there’s still some spooky fun to enjoy in the show’s latest half-hour special.

One tiny detail that distinguishes it from “Scary Stories to Tell Your Cloud” is the setting. The latter episode saw the characters telling stories during an actual blackout. However, the special takes the appropriate approach by having them tell the stories when Parker fails to fake a blackout. It’s a suitable change that kept it from being a complete copy of its predecessor. However, the episode’s still a follow-up that plays the same way as the previous Halloween episode regarding its structure.

The first half sees Parker and Lily telling their own scary stories that see Angus in humiliating situations. Those include “The Shedding”, which involves Lily making life-threatening jackets out of her skin to get even with the bullies, and “The Middlemost Goat Part 2”, centering on the goat eating people who ate its favorite food: doughnuts. This led to Angus telling his own story about junk mail before pretending to choke on candy to scare them. Finally, the second half consists of stories that resemble The Exorcist, with Angus being possessed by bad meat, and Interview with the Vampire, which sees Miss Pam encountering a jam-eating vampire puppy. The “Meatsorsist” story is my favorite of the bunch due to its use of stop-motion animation for Angus’s possessed condition.

Overall, “More Scary Stories to Tell Your Cloud” is a noticeable duplicate of its predecessor with a couple of differences, including its half-hour runtime. However, it offers wacky humor and clever uses of animation to deliver another round of light-hearted and zany frights from the Middlemost Post. It’s far from the show’s best Halloween special, but if you enjoy the previous “Scary Stories” episode from season one, there are plenty of fun scares for you to like in its season two follow-up.
