English Dub Review: Lycoris Recoil “Another day, another dollar”

Overview

After learning that Café LycoReco is financially the red, Takina decides to take charge of accounting on her own. Takina flawlessly breaks down everything from indiscriminately restraining Chisato from wasting bullets to shadowing the café’s members. She even goes as far as planning a new menu item. But the menu item has a shape that’s too terrible to put into words!?


Our Take

Seems Cafe LycoReco isn’t doing too well financially so Takina decides to take over their finances! She is very dedicated to it even stopping Chisato from shooting too many bullets in certain missions. As for Takina’s new parfait, it’s hilariously…a monstrosity! Chisato stopped herself from saying what I’m also sure the audience was thinking, as well since it looks too much like something very obvious yet very wrong…

As usual, though, these scenes between Takina and Chisato are just perfect. I love how Chisato’s eyes get slightly glassy when she’s reminiscing or talking about something important; it’s like the weight of the moment breaks into her usually bubbly exterior- just a little bit. And then how Takina is there to listen, and the dynamic between them just flows so well. It was also so funny to see our girls taking on odd jobs, with handing out Halloween candy being my personal favorite. Later on, I didn’t expect Majima to visit Chisato’s apartment. They have a talk about the past. Chisato looks so different during the flashback sequences but that’s to be expected I guess.

This mostly worked as a half-filler episode. The first half of the plot was Takina being in charge of the budgetary aspects of the LycoRico which was fun yet a bit disappointing but I thought the rest was pretty good. especially the flashback of Chisato at the radio tower. I knew something was gonna go wrong with that one woman associated with Yoshimatsu was sent out for Chisato in the nurse’s office and with the way that massive cliffhanger ended, I’m curious if Takina will get there in time to save her ass.
