English Dub Review: The Demon Girl Next Door “A Ritual in Darkness! The Demon’s New Ally!!”

Shamiko and Momo enter Mikan’s heart to negotiate with Ugallu, the entity responsible for the magical girl’s curse!


Our Take

The miasma entity enveloping the host, and both Shamiko and Momo try their absolute best figuratively (and literally) whisking it away with much mana used and negotiating with her familiar Ugallu whom as a character has some degree of communication and speaks like she’s a cave-woman complete with a semi-animalistic appearance. Trying to split her from Mikan sounds like a tough task, especially to Momo who thinks of nothing but violence to solve the problem to appease the meat-loving familiar that has been protecting Mikan from her curse.

Her soul has all along been within Mikan without a vessel, and to evacuate her would extradite a whole new problem in itself. And Mikan being half-awake from Anri’s goading (thanks to Lilith), decides upon the resolution met to summon Ugallu to the real physical world leading to all sorts of call-backs that come into play…

Overall, this was a really fun season finale with everyone from previous episodes culminated to playing a significant role by working together and having all the hard work pay off leading to a wholesome conclusion. Ugallu is a pretty cute new character, and it remains to be seen if Season 3 expands upon her character and further makes her a welcoming addition within Shamiko & Momo’s circle.
