Reax: @SethMacFarlane forced me to watch the opening ceremonies for the Oscars…PLUS ‘TED’!

I wasn’t going to do one of these, you know reaction to the Academy Awards,  but I decided to because I think Seth MacFarlane deserves an Oscar for his performance.

I might have watched a combined total of for all of the Academy Award showings, and to be honest despite the fact that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was hosting, I was planning on not watching it. Alas, I kept this promise, but I am also suffering from the worst stomach flu of my entire life. So, after throwing up and shitting eight chicken wings, orange juice, a bagel with cream cheese, onion rings, nachos, sprite, choc cake, and what I think may have been the ultimate culprit, a spinach artichoke dip flatbread, I decided to give the Oscars opening ceremonies a try because I thought….what could be worse?

So, I caught a good portion of Seth MacFarlane’s opening ceremonies performance and the only thing I had to say was…WOW! Wow, because he turned the opening of the Academy Awards into a Broadway-caliber performance with singing and dancing while bringing big timers like Charlize Theron and Joseph Gordon-Levitt into the mix. Even more so Seth just laid it on thick with the jokes and he went after everyone both on stage and in pre-recorded bits. From tons of Lincoln jokes at the behest of Daniel-Day Lewis to a song all about boobs…THIS is what Hollywood should be about.

Now, I still think the Oscars are horse shit and this was further confirmed when ‘Longest Day Care’ with Maggie Simpsons didn’t win for best animated short. But, with a later appearance by ‘Ted’ that helped to further knock my socks off.  Were there a couple of jokes missed from Seth? Yes, like the Sally Field bit although well thought out, was poorly executed. But, Jesus H. Christ, at the end of the day Seth MacFarlane got ME to watch SOME of the Academy Awards (whilst flipping back and forth between AxMen) and that alone deserves an award! Argo might have won for best picture, but this was Seth MacFarlane’s night. That said Animation Domination returns next Sunday Night on FOX with new episodes of everything except American Dad and Family Guy.

Deadline.com was nice enough to compile Seth MacFarlane’s bits here including the Ted bit here.
