English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “As Long as We’re at the Beach…”

Overview:

Desumi gets promoted at Gekko, but that involves her being fused with a gorilla and turning into a monster. Afterwards, Desumi and Fudou go on a beach date.

Our Take:

I’ve been curious as to why Desumi joined Gekko in the first place. This question is answered early on in this episode. Desumi’s parents signed her up and she just happened to do a good job at the tryout. She never really had an interest in becoming a supervillain, which is interesting. After all, she’s not evil or cruel at all outside of Gekko. That being said, her performance inside Gekko is remarkable.

So remarkable that she gets a promotion. However, this involves her being fused with a gorilla and turning into a monster. Everyone at Gekko is happy for her and so is her family. Her father actually used to be a member of Gekko and Desumi’s siblings want to join when they get older. Everyone is excited for Desumi to become a monster, but she doesn’t really want to go through with it. On the other hand, she also doesn’t want to let everybody down.

She asks Fudou what she should do and Fudou tells her to do what she wants, not what everyone else wants her to do. Desumi does just that and turns down the promotion. She ends up gaining even more respect from Supreme Leader Bosslar, so it works out for the best.

Shortly after, Fudou and Desumi set up a beach date while their respective teams are going to be there anyway. Desumi gets Gekko to attack the beach and Gelato 5 are testing one of their robots there. Big gelato accidentally fires off some missiles, which causes the members of Gekko to flee. The only ones who remain behind are Desumi and Beast Princess.

Desumi goes to have fun with Fudou on the beach, but Beast princess misunderstands this as Desumi torturing him. These misunderstandings are hilarious and they also cause Beast Princess to gain new respect for her colleague. Beast Princess’s time on the beach isn’t uneventful either because she gets chased around by Blue Gelato. I’m not sure why he doesn’t recognize her. It’s possible that they haven’t faced off or maybe he just doesn’t recognize her because she isn’t in her usual attire.

Speaking of, Desumi hangs out with the rest of Gelato 5. Fudou just introduces her as his friend, but Misaki (Yellow) suspects their dating. She even thanks Desumi for helping Fudou get out of his shell.

I’m very confused as to why nobody realizes Desumi is Reaper Princess. I could have sworn they had her name and profile on record, but I may be misremembering. Although, one member seemingly recognizes her, so I’m curious where that will lead.

This is a very sweet episode in the first half and a very fun one in the second half. I like that we learn why Desumi is in Gekko and that she’s starting to think about her own wants. I love that Fudou goes out of his way to see Desumi when he can tell she’s upset. These two just keep growing closer and their relationship just keeps getting better.

The beach portion is also great. My favorite part is when Big Gelato is about to end his fireworks display, but something goes wrong and causes the whole robot to explode. The best part is that Beast Princess thinks that Desumi caused the blast and Desumi is none the wiser. I’m glad we get to see more of Beast Princess in general. Like I said previously, her attitude is very enjoyable to watch.

I’m still waiting for the other members of Gelato 5 to get some focus. Judging by the post-credits scene though, it looks like that may be coming up. regardless, I’m invested and always anticipating what comes next.
