English Dub Review: Heroines Run the Show: The Unpopular Girl and the Secret Task “The Manager-in-Training Job!”

Overview

Hiyori’s job skills get two thumbs up from her boss and CEO, and two thumbs down from the boys of LIP×LIP…

Our Take

Hiyori is doing her best to be a good manager, even though the whole situation is new and strange to her. Though it may sound weird having an outsider who knows nothing about the trade can indeed be useful as it eliminates any chance of bias in decision making. School life and the track is tough enough but combined with that now is the new job, though the interview with Full throttle 4 sure proved interesting.

I also like how they still do not forget about Hina and Kotaro, which is honestly a good break from the main storyline. Though, I don’t know much about the boy’s backstories before becoming an idol. But it manages to set itself apart from other Idol-Themed Anime I’ve covered in the past with a gender-reversed scenario of a girl with ambition managing a duo of male singers which is something I often don’t see in this particular genre.

Overall this was a decent episode that displayed the kind of challenges that Hiyori is facing when managing her two idols as she earns her living in the city and by extension the idol industry. It’s rare to see fans that adore both their idols while being polite to their managers and staff as well. Still, it looks like the animosity between the two leads is something that will take a while to deal with. But despite that, I feel that Hiyori’s determination to get to know them is starting to create cracks within their proverbial armor. At their core, I don’t think these two are bad people, to begin with, but unless the two progressively change, they just come across as good people who are bad celebrities…
