English Dub Review: My Senpai Is Annoying: “A Light-Hearted Summer Vacation”

Overview: Futaba (Risa Mei), Takeda (Patrick Seitz), Kazama (Mark Allen Jr.) Sakurai (Jennifer AuBuchon) and Yuto (Bryn Apprill) hit the beach to unwind and have some fun.

Our Take: The title pretty much says it all about what to expect from this vacation centric episode that has our main cast enjoying a beachside romp.

It really is mostly just some fun and casual beach time fun with Futaba learning how to swim and feeling her physique doesn’t measure up to Sakurai and Natsumi’s more bountiful offerings. But again as history has shown us, it’s Takeda to the rescue showing just how he lifts her spirits with his honesty, refreshingly so in admitting men’s love of melons and her lack thereof, but most importantly about how that pertains to his love of her personality and heart more than anything else. Sakurai and Kazama also get some good time together with Sakurai’s jealousy at Kazama ogling any boobs that aren’t hers and her teasing of him continues to make their relationship a pleasure to watch and one that’s, at the very least, just as an enjoyable as Futaba and Takeda’s, if not more so.

After swimming, beach volleyball and chowing down on some grub, the gang decides to light some fireworks. However, beyond making some sweet memories, it also continues to push Natsumi and her relationship with Yuto as he develops as a young man and looks to her for advice, this time in platonic friendships/possible romances with girls and the perception of it from others. Her role in his life continues to be an endearing aspect of their chemistry, beyond her constant teasing.

All of the couples’ time together shows just how close they’ve become with one another, one that’s made even more clear in Sakurai and Takeda’s humorous conversation that ends up embarrassing their respective partners at the idea of how close they are. A final beach montage acts as a pleasant sunset to their beach getaway, with Futaba finally starting to be direct in asking Takeda to spend time with her next summer, showing just maybe things will pick up steam, even if just a little.
