English Dub Review: Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan “I Can Do It by Myself”

Overview:

Derekida and Furode come up with an idea for a new segment, which ends up revealing one of Iketeru’s weaknesses. Meanwhile, a director asks the cast members about the dreams they’ve had recently.

Our Take:

This show really makes me want to write a letter to some of the kids’ shows out there just to see if the staff is okay. You never really think about how they might be having a rough go of it. It seems like a harder job than regular acting cause you have to always remain positive because of the kids, even if you mess up.

Iketeru is such a sweet boy and needs to be protected at all costs. He didn’t even know how to cut paper into strips somehow. Just how different was he raised? He and his sister had an “argument” about a cat video and he felt he couldn’t go home. Once he saw two children apologize however he thought he would just apologize to her. The only problem is she didn’t think that they were actually arguing so all is well that ends well I guess?

There are apparently two directors on Together with Maman and this was the other one’s turn to direct. He wanted to hear about everyone’s dreams but no one had a good one. Till he got to Uramichi and I guess a dream about food items is more interesting than I thought. He did manage to make a cool ninja segment out of it so I guess it can’t be all bad. Though his choice of how to dress Uramichi left quite a bit to be desired… I am pretty sure the new director is voiced by J. Michael Tatum, I don’t know how big a role this character will play but that is a big voice actor for a small part if he isn’t involved more.

The animation team kills it with the facial expressions. Every time someone gets that dead look in their eyes I know something hilarious is about to happen. Or has happened in some cases I suppose. I say it every week but the comedy in this is on point. It’s not quite morbid or dark enough to call it dark humor but that is the closest thing I can think to call it. I always look forward to what new life lesson I am going to learn from Uramichi.
