Review: Craig of the Creek “Creature Feature”

Overview

After being freaked out by a monster movie Craig snuck to watch much to Bernard’s dismay, Craig finds himself being chased by that very same monster in the Creek who begins terrorize Craig and Bernard’s respective circles of friends within their home…

Our Take

While the episode itself was quite fun, the real meat of the story was about admitting to having actual fears and whether or not expressing them makes us better people. You can argue that having fears makes us weak or that not having fears makes us stronger, but the moment when we do express actual fear, we have a “fight or flight” instinct that can come with it reacting/responding to various situations which is a very human way of dealing with them in life as they arise.

As for the monster itself, the design isn’t anything really imaginative other than being Gill-Man/Creature from the Black Lagoon-inspired. But the real fear not only came how towering it was over everyone it terrorized but from whether or not the creature actually exists as both Craig and his brother Bernard’s friends (along with his girlfriend) all react differently to the situation in various and sometimes comedic ways.

Overall this was both quite a fun and passable episode with a twist that even I didn’t see coming, along with a well-conveyed message about the fears many of us have for better or worse.
