Nowadays animated television shows that take place in outer space  are all over the place on Youtube. But, when Futurama first came on the air, it was the first time really since the Jetsons that a prime-time animated series tried to keep the setting in an alternate NYC where trips to space are the norm. Since then Futurama has become one of the biggest animated properties on the planet with almost 25 million fans on Facebook, and features characters that are probably in more memes than any other program. But, with all of this glitz and glamour, it sometimes can be hard to remember that we have a quality animated series on our hands that of which turned in a very strong 2012 in terms of plot, character development, and most importantly the comedic writing.

The stellar writing was seen on exhibit this past year in episodes like 31st Century FOX’,  “NEAR-DEATH WISH“, and “THE BUTTERJUNK EFFECT” episodes that certainly showed that the producers aren’t intent on staying put, rather they are looking to push the envelope. The animation is still incredible,  as the show continues to seamlessly blend your traditional 2D hand-drawn worlds with ample CGI use that is so good it makes some Hollywood big budgets look like they were animated by hobos. But, the real strength of the show is of course the comedic banterings of its stars and not even the ones you know like the always dependable Bender or Fry, but rather characters like Zoidberg and Hermes continue to grow to the point of abrebellious status if we don’t get more.

Futurama is coming back next year, a monkey’s uncle could have told you this. But, if you go out and purchase the Vol 7 home release you will see why the show keeps going and should keep doing so for years to come. Futurama, often imitated NEVER duplicated.
