Review: Mighty Magiswords “Bad Heir Day”

Or just bad?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

When Princess Zange’s “Autostyle Magisword” is stolen, it’s up to the Warriors to retrieve it so their royal leader can avoid embarrassment from the paparazzi and face her subjects without having bad hair, but things get more hectic as the episode progresses…

Our Take

During their Day off, Prohyas & Vambre end up being hired on a frequent basis with the most-used running joke is them being unable to relax on their day off due to a shady individual named Phil whom in comedic & goofy ways, makes things difficult for the Princess and our protagonists.

The humor was a mixed bag. While it did give me chuckle in places, some jokes came off as just being a little cringe-worthy in others. Also, for some reason, the “Autostyle Magisword” talks like she’s Fran Drescher which kinda caught me off guard. It’s never explained how Phil achieves these underhanded tactics to the Princess but he must’ve been one hell of a clever bastard while doing so.

The art style remains consistent and while the jokes and episodes move at a brisk pace, it at least attempts to make things easy to follow when everyone isn’t talking so damn fast. And for some reason, Phil’s design reminds me of the grotesque yet iconic art style of John Kricfalusi, but with a charming Hispanic accent.

Overall, I think what made me laugh the most near the end was the clever relax-themed ways Prohyas & Vambre put a stop to Phil’s antics, along with a small yet funny Mech-Anime reference that was easy to pick up on but the episode as a whole excels as harmless dumb fun.
