“Broad City” Producers Sign Deal With Comedy Central; Announce Animated Series In Development

Broad City has been known to increase the animated footprint of their series when working with Mike Perry, this came to a head last year when Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer did a hybrid/animated episode last year that was excellent. Well, the girls may have some more to do in this arena because Comedy Central has announced that with the impending final season of Broad City on the way, the duo has signed on a first-look deal that includes the development of a new animated series called MallTown USA.

Mall Town USA: Mall Town USA is an animated comedy that follows the afterschool misadventures of a 13-year-old girl navigating the complexities of life in the classic microcosm of American culture that is The Mall. Mall Town USA is written and created by Gabe Liedman (Broad City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and executive produced by Jacobson and Glazer.

Our Take

Comedy Central has admittedly had issues in launching originally animated fare despite the quality of the series. Fans are still pissed about Brickleberry being canceled, and just last year along the network had canned. The Gorburger Show, Jeff & Some Aliens, and Legends of Chamberlain Heights in one fell swoop.Network mainstay, South Park, is eyeing a 22nd season later this Fall.
