DVD REVIEW: FAMILY GUY VOLUME 10

If you are a Family Guy connoisseur than you already know if you are going to buy this collection or not. But, is this a purchase for the general public?? After the jump find out if the latest release from 20th Century FOX is worth your hard earned cash.

The Seth MacFarlane Animation Domination shows have a serious problem right out of the gate for every home release but more so Family Guy than all the others. Family Guy is on TV 150 times a week, with new and rerun episodes on FOX, slightly new and rerun episodes on Adult Swim, and then straight up reruns on TBS and CW and then the Spanish nets.  Years ago this probably wasn’t a problem and as such helped bring the now hit animated series back after a short hiatus, but with Family Guy now in its 11th season, you have to impress the fuck out of people if you are going to sell them on a home release.

For the die-hard collectors, this is just another feather in your cap and no matter what I write you are going to shell out the $20 to purchase Vol. 10 first week no questions asked and God damn it, you have every right to do so. Casual fans however need a few more extra reasons to buy and that depends on what you like. If you are looking for special features the collection has a few but for the most part the animatics are kind of boring, but the deleted scenes are good but if you are anything like me you are only going to watch them once then never again unless if you have friends over that are bored. The real treat here in terms of exclusives is the “Herbert & Franz: The Making of the Epic Fight Sequence” which is probably one of the funniest behind-the-scenes animatics and its hosted by the very funny Joe Vaux and Dominic Bianchi both of whom actually had to almost mo-cap the now infamous old man battle.

The real gravy that this collections bases itself on is the fact that all of the episodes are uncensored and yes it is a pretty funny difference between watching Family Guy on TV or on a home release. However, if you are someone that doesn’t care about the censorship part I am not sure if Vol 10. is a good buy for you and as such you can stick to watching it on TV. For special feature and collection junkies, this new release is right up your alley.
