English Dub Review: Oshi No Ko “Emotional Acting”

By Ben Schmidt

Overview:

Abiko and Goa collaborate on a new script and now the pressure is on the actors to bring the script to life. However, Aqua soon faces an unexpected challenge during rehearsal.

Our Take:

I had a feeling that once Abiko and Goa worked together they would get along well. Especially after she saw how a play comes together and that her way of doing things wasn’t going to be perfect. Now they’ve put something together that puts everything on the actors to draw the audience in.

Aqua isn’t the most emotionally available person as we’ve come to learn. So his having to commit to emotional acting is going to be difficult. Now… Kana has no way of knowing that Aqua’s mother is dead but when he asks her how she makes herself cry for acting she responds with “What if your mom was dead?” This causes Aqua to have a bit of a break understandably. His handling of Ai’s death is something that I don’t recall being touched on a lot. It makes sense that he would have a lot of PTSD when it comes to that.

Akane spends time with Aqua while he’s sick and it seems like she might have figured out his secret. With how connected he and Ruby are to Ai, and this most recent episode it’s not hard to figure out that they might be connected to Ai’s death. With the play just around the corner, Aqua needs to get it together soon.
