Review: RICK AND MORTY: YOUTH IN RICKVOLT #2

Overview

Rick and Beth have infiltrated the Revolution World with a less-than-foolproof plan to destroy the rebellion from the inside out, but that plan is quickly thwarted by dinosaur-riding rebel children out for Rick’s blood. Meanwhile, back home, Summer discovers Rick’s pocket universe, along with evidence that Rick and Beth are there. Worse, she learns this universe is becoming unstable, and it’s only a matter of time before it collapses on itself . . .

Our Take

I feel like a lot of Rick and Morty stories, whether they be in print or otherwise, would have been long over if Rick just kept more of his promises to Morty, such is the case with Rick and Morty: Youth In Revolt #2.

Like standard Rick and Morty tropes go, Rick and Morty have a disagreement about something so Rick opts to use someone different on his adventures. When Morty is left to his own devices, he’s typically the one to take on more of the sci-fi know how responsibilities given that Rick isn’t in the picture though that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Instead, Beth and Rick are out galavanting about the different universes while Morty has a chill day. Summer can’t be chill, so she opts to find out what the hell is going on here.

The Michael Moreci-written dialogue is strong here, save for a hit here or there that kind of treads into social justice warrior territory, but the plot is heating up and I’m having a bunch of fun in this dystopian Revolution World. That said, we’ve seen other worlds where Morty is in charge and I’m curious to see if this one does enough to differentiate itself from the back as we get into the second half of this mini-series.
