Overview

Bosco goes to Bob needing to learn how to make a burger for an undercover mission to oust criminal and burger joint owner Vincent Balicki.

Our Take

What a way to end the 14th season of Bob’s Burgers! This week’s episode is by far my favorite way to watch an episode of the show. No dual plots, just the whole family coming together to solve a problem and great guest stars to boot.

“To Catch A Beef” actually works on two levels as a title: 1) Gary Cole’s character “Bosco” has to learn how to grill a burger to pass a job interview at another burger joint and 2) because Ebon Moss-Bachrach guest stars as “Vincent” and comes from the biggest live-action scripted cooking show The Bear where I assume they eat all of the beef. In any case, the results are in the burger mix because the Jameel Saleem-written half-hour delivers in by far the show’s best episode of the season.

The main conflict levels up in seriousness by the end of every act so much so that I was on the edge of my seat just as much as I was laughing hysterically at the plot which I think could’ve deserved another 20-minutes just to continue to flesh out all of the ramifications of what’s going on and answer so many questions. Hell, I thought it was ironic that Bob wasn’t at all bothered about helping a burger restaurant competitor in the slightest and instead let this whole thing play out beautifully with the pastiche of The Usual Suspects.

Even after 14 seasons, Bob’s Burgers knows how to ratchet things up and deliver in spades and for my money I think the show still delivers those Emmy-level episodes that keeps us coming back for more. Now I gotta wait a whole friggin’ week for the debut of the show’s 15th season, until then, do NOT miss this one.
