Insight: The Lowest-Rated Adult Animation Pilots According To IMDB

A new study has named BoJack Horseman the most popular adult animated TV series with the lowest-rated pilot episode, with a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb.

The casino comparison website Instant Casinos analyzed data from IMDb to rank each show mentioned on Variety and Rolling Stone’s lists of the 100 greatest TV series of all time. The shows with the lowest-rated pilot episodes on IMDb determined the ranking.

The study names BoJack Horseman as the most beloved TV series with the lowest-rated pilot episode, with the show’s debut receiving a score of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb. While the series is now championed as one of the most beloved adult animated comedies of all time and has won numerous Emmy awards, its first episode was met with mediocre reviews, failing to win over critics. Other noteworthy adult animated comedies that had low-rated pilots can be seen below and it looks like having bad pilots doesn’t necessarily mean a series in its entirety will be bad or not successful (i.e. give shows a chance!):

3)Rick and Morty

IMDB Rating: 7.9/10

It looks as though Rick and Morty is going the way it came in. While the pilot episode of Rick and Morty was not very highly-rated according to IMDB, the series would go on to greater success under the tutelage of Justin Roiland, with the show bringing in multiple Emmy wins. Unfortunately, after Justin Roiland was fired from the show under wrongful circumstances, the series limped on ever since with the TV ratings in the toilet and no Emmy noms since Justin was fired from the series.

2)South Park

IMDB Rating: 7.5/10

Recently, Matt Stone and Trey Parker said that South Park is like the Rolling Stones in that they can release fewer episodes of the series per year but still make tons of money because the syndication and streaming rights are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. A far cry from when the series first started!

1)BoJack Horseman

IMDB Rating: 7.1/10

BoJack Horseman’s pilot episode received the third-lowest rating, 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb. Despite exploring many hard-hitting themes, including addiction and depression, the episode was criticized for being slow-paced and lacking depth.  BoJack Horseman went on to win multiple Emmy awards and despite the fact that the show’s creator has tried to backtrack on some of the casting decisions that were made during the series’ heyday, the proof is in the pudding.
