English Dub Review: Wistoria: Wand and Sword “Shall we date?”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Students at the academy suddenly see Will in a different light, and he receives a flood of invitations to join their parties for the upcoming all-student praxis.  Colette panics and arranges a date with Will, but an unexpected third party shows up.

Our Take:
Will may not have won the festival’s Crown Attack event, but he did win something more special than a crown: respect.  After defeating the cold-hearted Julius at the festival, Will has earned plenty of praise from the other students, which is long overdue considering how they treated him like crap for a few years.  As for Julius, he’s spending hard labor by washing dishes at Gina’s tavern.  A perfect punishment for a racist, blue-haired asshole.  Unfortunately, we can’t count Julius out just yet.
The academy is hosting an all-student praxis, a survival exercise to give students a chance to earn more credits, and everyone is seeking out Will to join them due to his performance at the festival.  But, apparently, Will is better off hanging out with Colette and his roommate, Rosti, during their shopping trip, or as Colette would call it, a “date”.  However, this also caused minor tension between the two friends, with Colette feeling uneasy due to her belief that Rosti is a girl.  In actuality, Rosti is a boy who happens to have a crush on Will, and he’s looking to have him all to himself, much to Colette’s jealousy.  It’s certainly nice that this show offers a slight hint of LGBT representation, but from a different perspective, this could prove troublesome for Colette, who also possesses feelings for Will.
As if two friends fighting for Will’s love is tough enough, Will is invited by top student Lihanna Owenzaus to join her group for the praxis.  Unfortunately, her team consists of his rivals, Sion and Julius, who aren’t exactly happy with Lihanna’s choice.  However, Wignall is also part of the team, and thank goodness for that since he has the most common sense compared to the two nutcases.  After hearing that Lihanna wants to be a Magia Vander to save her family, Will accepts the invitation.  Hopefully, this cooperation would work out better than at the festival because, with the high-level monsters and a mysterious adversary at play, they’re going to need more than luck to survive.  If the praxis event is anything like the school’s festival, then we’re going to be in for one hell of a magical treat.
