English Dub Review: The Unwanted Undead Adventurer “A Strange Man and a Strange Job”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Rentt is given a job by a secretive and important family that has great influence over the city of Maalt.

Our Take:
As it turns out, Rentt isn’t the only person seeking the Dragonblood Flower.  The mysterious figure he encountered was an elf named Isaac Hart, who also searched for the flowers to heal his employer.  It’s also revealed later that Isaac is part of a powerful Latour family with significant influence over Maalt.  In short, it’s sort of a fantasy anime equivalent to every crime family in existence.
Fortunately, their encounter came and went without any issues, aside from accepting Isaac’s mysterious job, and Rentt was able to complete his quest to deliver the flowers to the orphanage.  Even better, the rat monsters hiding in the basement are now the building’s protectors, thanks to Edel.  However, Rentt’s relaxation is immediately cut short as he visits the Latour family to accept a new job because, as we all know by now, refusing a power-hungry family usually spells trouble.  But he’ll have to go through a constantly changing labyrinth to be granted access to the family’s mansion.  Despite its small size, this maze is no laughing matter.
Unsurprisingly, this is another episode that steered clear of Rentt’s accusation issue in favor of another side quest depicting Rentt’s inspiring others with his good deeds.  This time, we have Alize striving to become an adventurer like Rentt to help people.  Of course, she’ll have to learn magic from Lorraine first.  Additionally, we see Rentt having a sense of self-doubt because he is undead.  He is able to pursue his dream easily because of his abilities compared to his being alive.  This left him questioning whether his accomplishments were made by his efforts or his handicapped power.  This piece of development and Rentt’s troubling predicament helped compensate for the show’s lack of plot progression.
