Overview:

With the fusion of Ai and Mai into an entirely new being, Shy is left alone atop the tower to face a formidable foe alone. Hearts clash on battlefields both physical and emotional.

Our Take:

Sometimes we have to take our thinking cap off when watching anime and just have fun. I’ve learned this lesson recently because I started watching Gintama. Now the tone between these two shows couldn’t be anymore different but I think the lesson is applicable. I don’t know why Shy was suddenly able to manifest a sword out of nowhere but it was badass. Since she is fighting a foe who is using two swords that adds to the badass factor.

We also got some more of Mai’s backstory which I’ll admit pulled at my heartstrings a bit. I’ll admit that during the flashbacks we had already seen I might have confused which one was Mai and which was Ai but that confusion has been cleared up. I think I was confused because they acted so differently when they were younger. Ai was a bit bratty and Mai seemed so hopeful and cheery. Now we know why she’s so jaded. Her ability was recognized and was sent on missions where she was tasked with killing people. So once again, now I feel pity for the “bad guy” and I hope Shy is able to save both her and Ai.
